Why recycle your old Laptop?

Laptop recycling is becoming increasingly important and it is not only beneficial for the environment, but also for the people who use them.
Laptops contain a variety of metals, plastics and other materials which, when not recycled properly, can become hazardous pollution sources. Common laptop components, such as display screens, keyboards, batteries and speakers, all contain hazardous material. Most of these hazardous compounds, such as lead and mercury, can be released into the environment if not recycled correctly. Additionally, laptops contain a range of combustible and hazardous metals such as lithium and cadmium, which can leach into the soil and into the water table, polluting it and making it unfit for human consumption.
Apart from the environmental benefits, recycling laptops helps the economy. By donating or selling an old laptop, you can help someone else in need and help reduce the demand for newer laptops. This can save on the production of new components, materials and energy needed to power and manufacture them.
Laptops are also valuable sources of data, which can be recovered and reused by anyone for any reason, most likely not good. By recycling laptops, the data can be wiped securely and safely, preventing confidential data from falling into the wrong hands.
In summary, recycling laptops serves multiple purposes: it helps reduce hazardous waste, conserves energy and resources, saves money and data and helps the environment. It's important to choose the right recycling partner in order to ensure safe and secure laptop recycling practices.

How we recycle your laptops

To recycle a laptop, we start by gathering up all of its components (hard drive, battery, power cord, etc) and inspecting them to determine their condition. We make sure to dispose of any broken parts in the appropriate way. which means metal parts are put into a container used for collecting metal, same with plastic etc.. The next step is to wipe the hard drive within the laptop to remove any personal data. This can be done by performing a factory reset, reformatting, or using a data wiping software. These steps are all determined by you, the customer. There may be highly sensitive data involved. For example, the customer is a medical facility. If this is the case, we will remove the hard drives, collect the serial numbers and enter the serial numbers collected it into a database. The hard drive will then be shredded. The customer may request and witness the shredding if so desired. These extra steps are all fee based. If the hard drive contains non sensitive info, then a simple format or wipe may be conducted without a fee. Once the laptop has been physically prepared to this point we will separate out reusable components and safely dispose of any hazardous materials. By following these steps, you can make sure your laptop is recycled responsibly.
